Antelope Valley AIAA to Host Career Night 4/23/15 at AVC

The Antelope Valley Chapter of AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics) is hosting a Career Night for students from 8th grade to college and their parents in celebration of National Engineering Week.  The event will be held on 23 April 2015, from 6:00-7:30pm in the Board Room (SSV151) at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster.  A panel discussion of what engineers do will be featured, along with FREE PIZZA!

AIAA To Host Engineering Career Night at AVC 2/18/14

As part of an Engineering Week commemoration, the Antelope Valley Chapter of the AIAA, joined by the SWE and SFTE, are hosting a Career Night related to engineering for 8th graders through college aged students at Antelope Valley College, in the SSV-151 Board Room, on Tuesday, 18 February 2014, from 6-7:30pm.  Highlights include a panel of engineers, free pizza, and a paper airplane competition where the winner will receive a $25 gift card from Best Buy.  Come out and ask questions about engineers and what they do.  For more information, visit www.facebook.com/AntelopeValleyAIAA or e-mail aiaa.av@gmail.com .

6th Annual AV-ation History Symposium Set for 2/23/13

The sixth annual AV-ation History Symposium, sponsored by the AV chapter of AIAA, is scheduled to take place on 23 February 2013 at Antelope Valley College.  Admission for K-12 students is expected to be free, and minimal admission price for educators.  Details will be announced soon; educators submitting proposals for the AV AIAA Classroom Grant will be sent information soon.

AIAA Classroom Grant Applications Due by 2/23/13

The Antelope Valley chapter of the AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics) has announced its annual classroom grant for K-12 science and math; two $400 awards are available for use in classrooms for STEM-related projects or instruction.  Proposals, must include the name, contact information, and AIAA member number of the K-12 instructor (educator associate memberships are free - http://www.aiaa.org/Secondary.aspx?id=253 ), school name, address, and grade level of the classroom, a brief description of the proposed project, how it will prepare students for STEM careers, expected costs, brief statement from at least 2 students in the class of what they expect to learn and why it is important, and how local AIAA professional members could support the project.  Winning projects should be completed by the end of the 2012-2013 academic year, accompanied by a final write-up and photos; up to $400 of direct material expenses will be reimbursed.

Proposals, in Word or pdf format, must be e-mailed to educationoutreach.aiaa.av@gmail.com by no later than 9:00pm on 23 February 2013.

AIAA Classroom Grants Available

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics has $200 classroom grants available to K-12 teachers for projects applying science, math, or technology.  To submit the short proposal form, one must be a teacher affiliate of AIAA (free).  For guidelines on allowable projects and more information, visit http://www.aiaa.org/Secondary.aspx?id=4184&terms=teacher%20grants .
