UC Santa Barbara and its Center for Spintronics and Quantum Computation recently were awarded $14.5 million in grant funding from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research to "investigate nano-scale computer chips and quantum computing." One award will go toward research with quantum mechanical effects in diamonds in computer chips, including "training a new generation of quantum scientists and engineers." A second award will be used in building 3-d computer chips combining current technology and modern nano-memristors.
